It is not a secret that Google already deployed Software Defined Networking (SDN) in its data centers in 2012 and declared in ONF 2017 that they will deploy SDN in public Internet soon. Other companies such as Verizon and NetGear have already started to deploy SDN in their networks too.
SDN decouples data controlling part (so called controller) from the data forwarding part (so called switch/router). A software-based centralized controller is responsible for data controlling action and hardware devices (switches/routers) are only responsible for data forwarding task. One of the most popular protocols for interfacing between the controller and switch/router is OpenFlow. Several well-known SDN controllers are NOX, POX, ONOS, OpenDaylight, and Ryu.
Network Functions Virtualization (NFV) is a network architecture concept that uses virtualization technologies (such as VMWare/Virtualbox) to virtualize entire classes of network node functions into building blocks that may connect, or chain together, to create communication services. Examples of such functions are firewalling, routing, switching, NAT, etc.
SDN and NFV are currently moving from the phase of standardization by Open Networking Foundation (ONF) to that of early proliferation and adoption as common 5G base technologies. This workshop sheds lights on aspects such as deployment, performance analysis, and other research aspects of SDN/NFV.
The topics of interest for this workshop include, but not limited to:
Prospective authors are invited to submit full papers of up to 6 pages, strictly following the IEEE
Proceedings Templates. Submitted papers will be peer-reviewed and prospective authors are
expected to present their papers at the workshop. The papers that are accepted and presented
at the workshop will appear in workshop/conference proceedings and will be submitted for IEEE
Xplore. At least one author of each accepted submission must attend the workshop and that
every workshop participant must register and present the paper.
Please submit your paper in PDF format via the electronic submission system called easychair
